On any given day, or at any given time, Christy Tennant might be labeled actress, interviewer, speaker, singer, songwriter, worship leader, creative catalyst, connector, or writer. Her love for the stage brought her to New York City, where she worked as an actress, singer, and dancer in theater productions such as West Side StoryGodspell, and A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and several TV shows, including LegacyAs The World Turns, and Homicide: Life on the Streets.  As a singer/songwriter, she toured along the east coast, made several recordings, and performed at some of New York’s best-known clubs (The Living Room, CB’s Gallery at CBGB, Arlene’s Grocery, and more).

Meanwhile, her intense spiritual curiosity left her frequently feeling tugged toward formal Christian ministry. She has traveled as an international volunteer and English teacher, working in El Salvador, China, and Nigeria. Her devotional articles have been published in several magazines, including Discipleship Journal, Bible Study Magazine, and Pray!, and she regularly speaks and leads worship for retreats and conferences throughout the U.S.

In August 2007, Christy joined the staff of International Arts Movement, a non-profit arts organization that exists to gather artists and creative catalysts to wrestle with the deep questions of art, faith and humanity in order to inspire the global creative community to engage the culture that is and create the world that ought to be.  As the Director of Global Community, Christy contributes philosophically and pragmatically to the ongoing conversation, organizing events, collaborations, discussions and creativity workshops.  She also hosts a podcast, IAM Conversations, where she interviews aspiring, emerging and established artists and creative catalysts, and in January 2011, she joined a small team of creative people working for Christianity Today’s new project, This is Our City, telling stories of Christians in public life – “the neighbors we are, and the neighbors we could be.”

Born in a suburb of Detroit and raised in southwestern Virginia, Christy is equally at home in big cities and small towns.  Add to that her love for international travel, and you have a woman who feels at home just about anywhere in the world!  After living in New York City for over twelve years, Christy moved to Seattle, where she now lives with her husband, dog, and cat.
